What You Don't Know [O|2P]

This current situation was rather humorous, if Ren did say so herself. It was as if she were in one of those scary stories parents told their pups to keep them from wandering off from the safety of their den and straight into the waiting maws of the real monsters that lurked within the unknown. It was cold, it was dark, and to top it all off: the wind was howling viciously against her moist pelt. Though she was not generally one to be afraid of such things, the thought of some fantastical creature coming and, well, slaughtering her decided to hang heavy within her mind on this particular night. Every time a small branch managed to snap off of its base, Ren would, in turn, snap her head in the direction the loud noise had come from. It hardly helped, anyway, since she couldn't see half of them. She doubted she would even be able to do so with perfect vision.

However, that was not, in fact, the biggest thing on her mind at that moment. It was instead the lingering emptiness that she felt in her stomach. She hadn't found anything to eat all day, besides the hare that she had spotted not long after it became much too dark for her to hunt successfully. It (predictably) escaped between her paws. Literally. The stupid things seemed to love rubbing it in when their predators couldn't catch them. Whatever, she'd find it and kill it the next morning. Except for the ice, wind, and snow, it wasn't like there was anything else around there. Especially anything that was edible.

If only she would have picked a warmer place to stay. It wasn't like she hadn't traveled through a suitable location on her way to where she was now. She had passed through many of them. But, for one reason or another, there was always something "wrong" with them. There was something wrong with this place, too, that she only now realized: it was freezing. This should have been pretty obvious, given their names (which were extremely unoriginal, if she may add). Actually, the largest surprise that she could think of was the fact that the creek was not actually frozen. It did have the occasional layer of ice, sure, but it most definitely was not as frozen as the name suggested. Even now she could hear the low rush of movement that it created as it made its way through the forest. She was not looking forward to getting another drink; it felt like an icicle was being shoved down her throat every time she swallowed. It was better than eating snow or ice, though. Or at least she hoped so.

Remembering one's way through this forest was bad enough without every blurred tree looking just like the last. Getting up close to them was not going to happen. There could be a raccoon or something that would gladly take a bite out of her face. The only thing she could go on was the sound of the creek, so she assumed that she was padding in the right direction as the sound gradually grew more audible. It surely was no more than twenty wolf-lengths, now. Any more and she would have to seriously consider whether or not her hearing was joining her sight.

Suddenly, the female stood completely still. She could have sworn she had heard a different sound. It most definitely was not the river, and she couldn't be sure, but it didn't sound like the wind had caused it. It sounded like something large moving atop the icy snow.

Ren's pale fur noticeably bristled, and her tail tucked slightly between her legs. Her eyes remained high and attentive, her ears twitching in all directions in an attempt to catch the noise again. A low, defensive growl escaped her muzzle, though she refrained from snarling so soon. She considered calling out, but decided that it would be a stupid thing to do. Not only was it completely predictable, but she also didn't want to embarrass herself too badly if it did prove only to be her overactive imagination.

The low growl of the fae made him weary, his pawsteps quick and steady above the snow. He showed no sign of any attack in his gestures, not realizing the fae was blind; unseeing his movements from the distance they were from.

Though the fae made a warning, he wanted to see the fae better. It didn't even seem like the fae saw him at all. Slowly, with his head low, he approached her, stopping himself a few wolf lengths infront of her, "Hello-?" he barked, trying to be friendly but a bit timid. He retraced a few steps back, hoping of no abrupt attack.

It was odd, this female didn't move her head to look around that much as most wolves would do to get a better view of their surroundings to see the presence of another wolf or animal.
Calypso examined the fae with his deep blue eyes.

The fact that this unknown creature was not sent running in the opposite direction-- as was what tended to happen with most prey animals-- was very unsettling. As far as she could tell, it wasn't even trying to ignore her or to make a detour around her. Was it a bear, or a human? Perhaps it was even another wolf stuck as unluckily as she in this forest of ice. None of those options sounded particularly pleasant, especially when she was left so defenseless.

Although it was hopeless, Ren's nose worked furiously in an attempt to scent the possible danger. The wind threw too many different smells into the air around her from all directions. As the sound grew nearer and nearer, as did the female's nervousness. All she could do was follow the trail of paw steps with her ears until it came close enough for her to see what it was. It took quite a bit of effort, but she managed not to shuffle on her paws or to squint. What or whoever it was did not need to know about her little problem. As it was, she could fool it into thinking that she was much more capable of damage than she actually was.

It wasn't long before the mysterious beast made its way into partial clarity. It was a light grey or white, which definitely didn't help her to differentiate it from her surroundings. Her first assumption was that it was one of the native foxes. That quickly changed when she saw it pass by a tree; it was much too large for a fox. Cursing inwardly, she realized that it was, unfortunately, a wolf. Did this really have to happen now? She would have much preferred the abnormally brave fox. Even if she would have left the encounter with a few wounds, at least she would have only had to protect herself against something much smaller than her own body. It was safer than a bear, at least.

The wolf came forward slowly and, from what she could make out, with his head lowered. Since when were other wolves cautious around her? They had never been so before, and the fact that one was now made her suspicious. When he came to a stop only a few wolf lengths before her, she took a quick step back, lowering her own head slightly. With a bit of timidity, it let out a short greeting. A male, if her sense of hearing was serving her correctly. Her ears flicked back as an uncertain tick for a short moment before they pressed forward once again. He took a few steps back himself, as if she were going to leap out and bite him, as ridiculous as that sounded. It was better than the alternative, she supposed.

Ren watched the male carefully. He didn't seem to be making any sudden movements, whether they be in the direction of fight or flight. With a mental sigh, she decided that the best course of action would be to respond likewise, as detestable as that seemed. “Hello,” she replied warily, shifting lightly on her paws. After a beat of silence, she swallowed, continuing with a more unique retort. “What do you want with me?” It was weak, but what else did she have to offer? Maybe if he realized that she had no food to give him, he would leave.

Raising his head slowly, he stood his ground. It was odd, he rarely saw another wolf, piticularly a fea alone out in these lands. Most wolves couldn't bare it but he took the conditions of the weather fine. His thick coat preventing any cold breezes and frost bite.

The direct approach was unsettle, seeming she went straight to the point. Her skinny body made it obvious she hadn't eaten in a few days or less. The fea had nothing to offer to Calypso, not exactly wanting anything from the fea in the first place. He cleared his throat quietly, replying to the abrupt question, "Is there really anything for you to offer me?" he replied, a bit jokingly in his words, not expecting an answer to the question. Shaking his head, he answered her question fully, "I don't want anything from you. My curiosity drove me to you. Seeing another wolf around here doesn't really occur often. He explained, trying to make a little sense as he spoke.

"More likely, are you lost?" Now asking her a question. He knew most wolves would wouldn't give a straight yes or no to the question, he just thought maybe he could help with anything that that would make him a better wolf. Sometimes it wasn't the greatest idea going up to strangers but he thought it was always worth a shot.

Ren observed the male carefully. He didn't seem to be an immediate threat, but then, why would he make it so easy to detect if he were? She narrowed her eyes slightly, trying to get a better look at him. His own eyes looked to be an oddly cold hue, perhaps blue? It was hard to tell in the dark. He was white, like her, with grey scattered throughout his pelt. Fitting, given their location.

Though it was difficult to make out against the roar of the wind, she could hear him quietly clear his throat. Was he as nervous as she was? As unlikely as that was, the thought still calmed her ever-so-slightly, and her paws became less restless. "Is there really anything for you to offer me?" Although the question was asked without any obvious hostility, the female still took an anxious step backwards just in case. He went on to say that he had simply been curious. She had to admit, it was a bit strange to find another lone wolf wandering without a pack wandering in a pack's territory.

Before she could even consider garnering a response, he spoke again. He was asking if she was lost? Well, if she actually thought about it, she actually was; at least partially. She could tell where the creek was from her current position, but aside from that she had no idea where her temporary shelter was. She would probably be up padding through the storm all night. Though, could she actually trust this male with that information? “N-no,” she responded, a shiver shaking it slightly. Perhaps she could just give a bit of the truth watered down, then. “I can hear the creek from here, and it'll be easy to see where to go from there once I reach it.” Easy, hah! It was already a little difficult to spot in broad daylight, let alone a night such as this one. She just had to hope that he wasn't one of those pseudo nice ones that end up attacking you and stealing anything and everything that you have at the time.

As Ghost moved atop the new snow that had fallen a few days ago, it made a sound with each step. No matter how quiet you wanted to be, it couldn't be avoided. Even though he could be as silent as the fog moving in, the snow was his bitter enemy today as he went padding along it heading to the river. As he moved among the brush and across the snow he made quiet little sound though the sound was there. But he stopped in that moment and froze mid-step. His ears strained outward listening for it again. He swear he heard a low growl that didn't last long, like a warning growl. He thought of which direction it seemed to come from and went that way. He came out from behind a few tress and there he saw another wolf, the fur along it quite bristled. He also noticed the slightly tucked tail kind of hidden from view. He looked at the wolf cocking his head slightly too the side, examining the situation at hand. The wolf look a little lean maybe, it didn't look like it has had a good meal in a long time. It seemed to not use its eyes much as its ears twitched in all directions and its head stayed quite still, as the wolf seemed to rely more on hearing then sight. He slightly sniffed the air and the wolf had a more feminine smell too it slightly so this stranger was fea. He slightly stepped forward more into view if the wolf could see a little. He made a slight more noise aside form the slightly crunching snow underneath his paws. He kept his head lowered slightly so now to provoke a dominance battle or fight nothing less. He, in a slightly curious voice barked out in a greeting "Hello"

It wasn't long before the mysterious beast revealed itself. Try as she might to scent the approacher, her nose was useless; the wind was sending too many different scents into the air from all around her. Her fur was completely on end now, her head lowered. Her ears were pulled forward and alert, ready to catch any sound she could from the creature. Even with the wind, her hearing was well enough to hear it breathing, so hopefully she would have some sort of forewarning to an attack.

The only thing that Ren knew for sure about it was that it had white fur, and it almost seemed like it was making more noise than necessary. For what reason, she had no idea. Perhaps it was trying to be amicable? She couldn't make out whether its posture was aggressive or not, so she supposed it was a possibility. She wasn't going to take any chances, though. She'd been fooled too many times to be so careless again.

Ren avoided squinting her eyes to get a better look. She had learned to do that the hard way. Instead, she took a wary step back, hoping to show that she didn't want any trouble but, if necessary, she would put up a fight. She really hoped it was a wolf; at least something around her size or smaller that she would have a chance of fending off. Then, as if to answer her thoughts, it spoke. It was a simple "hello," but at least now she knew it was a male wolf. She still wasn't quite sure that was a good thing.

She blinked a couple of times, somewhat confused, before she replied. “Hello.” What should she say? There was an awkward silence hanging over and between the two wolves as she struggled to come up with something. Anything. “What are you doing here?” All right, except that. What business did she have asking a question like that? Her ears moved back in a nervous tick before coming forward again. Stupid, stupid, stupid. He was probably going to attack her now.

Ghost stood there waiting for a reply. He got a reply nothing less but it was a little invading he could guess. The fae asking what are you doing here. What was he doing here. Ah now he remembers, he came here because he preferred the solitary life and wanted a environment more suited to his coat color. Somewhere where he could blend in. He found that here. The question was what was a fae like her doing in a environment like this, cold, dangerous and not a very good food source in miles really unless you knew where to look and how to hunt in the sparse undergrowth. He sat down on his rump, it making a solid thump and making a layer of powdery snow lift into the air falling back down too the ground in a few seconds. He looked at the fae and spoke "I could be asking the same of you, yes? What are you doing here? This is no place for a lady wolf as yourself I believe, and as I notice a little you seem to lack eyesight I believe or maybe you just don't look around much with your eyes. " He said it all while slightly leaning, looking as if he might fall over if a wind would slightly blow. He watched and studied the fae as he waited for a response.

So far the male hadn't attacked her. Instead, he sat down in the soft snow. Well, that was a bit unexpected. "I could be asking the same of you, yes?" She mentally winced, shuffling on her paws for a moment in an attempt to remain calm. He continued talking, questioning her more thoroughly than she had him. What was she doing here? That was easy, yet she had no chance to reply as he spoke more, saying that this was "no place for a lady wolf." That slightly got on her nerves. She was female, yes, but that was definitely not the reason this was a bad place for her to be. She avoided growling; it would only aggravate the situation more.

The other wolf seemed to be sitting very strangely, as though he were leaning forward in a way that left him to be easily knocked over. Was he testing her, to see if she would attack? If that was what he wanted, he wasn't going to get it. Then again, he could actually be in an aggressive position, and it only appeared as sloppy to her poor vision, and her eyes narrowed slightly. When he finally finished talking, Ren froze. Had she really been that careless? Her heartbeat quickened as she began to think of a way out without showing it outwardly. It was difficult, and after a few seconds she stopped trying. She would just have to take a chance when the time came.

Perhaps if she answered his questions in a jumbled order she would be able to get him to think that she really just didn't use her eyes that much. She forced her muscles to relax as much as she could so that she wasn't as outwardly anxious. “This doesn't seem like a place for any wolf, female or otherwise,” she started, cautious. “And using your other senses can be very rewarding, I find.” She thought for a moment, then she too sat down, albeit slowly. It was the best way to show him that she wasn't afraid without simply attacking him. She decided that it was her turn to ask a question, but this time she went with something much less encroaching. “Is there actually any game in this forest? I've barely seen a hare, let alone anything larger.”

Ghost slightly squinted his eyes, was the fae trying to deceive him of her eye sight. He knew it had to be bad and she didn't want him too know. It wasn't like he was going to attack her, no, he isn't like that, he wouldn't attack without a good reason. She shifted slightly trying to figure out a way to make sure he didn't look threatening. He shifted and wrapped his tail around him, relaxing his muscles so he didn't look ready too lunge. He tried to make his completion look softer and less threatening. He listened to her words as she replied. He thought it was a better place for a white wolf at the least. And her trying to use words to cover up for her lost of sight. How stupid did she think he was? And when she asked another question, he thought back too his earlier question he asked, he may have been a little too evasive he guessed. She didn't try too be and now he felt bad. He drooped his ears looking too the ground the he perked back up to answer her next question. " There's plenty of game really, mostly hares, and maybe once in a while you may see some deer. The hares are plentiful, but they are hard to find with all of the snow since they blend in quite well and invade predators easily. But when you know where too look there easy to find. I know a few paths they like too run." He said, shifting once again and making sure he demeanor looked calm.

Even if she couldn't catch the precise movements, she got the feeling that she had said something wrong, and a bemused look came upon Ren's face. Had she made him feel badly in some way? She thought back on what she'd said, trying to figure out what could have made him react that way, but nothing came to mind. It had to have been something he thought of.

She came out of her thoughts when he shifted into a more attentive position. He explained that there were mostly hares, and that they hid well with their white coats. Well, she knew the latter bit, but it was good to know that there were more than it had seemed at first. He also said that there were deer, but she couldn't really bring herself to believe him; it was something she'd have to scent with her own nose. His response was much more than she had expected. She'd predicted another evasive or, if she were lucky, vague reply that didn't help the awkward weight of their conversation. Instead, it seemed that weight had been partially lifted, which she was thankful for.

“Well, I'm a bit new to this area, so I'm afraid that I haven't quite learned the prey trails yet,” she said pleasantly. Why was this wolf being so nice to her? And, for that matter, why was she being so sociable with him? It wasn't very smart, she realized; this friendly display could give way at any moment to reveal something much worse. Still... She could talk to him a bit more, couldn't she? It had been so long since someone had taken an interest in conversing with her. For a moment she fought with herself on whether or not to ask him her next question. “Do you happen to know of any good places to rest? This wind is awful, and--” she stopped herself before she finished that sentence properly, but quickly picked up with something else. “I haven't found anything yet, unfortunately.”

Ghost as he shifted every so often, twitched his ears as she spoke again. He listened and then shook his head in thought. He looked at her, really looked at her and in a way she seemed lonely, small, he could provide a place for the night he guessed, so he spoke up. "If you want you can stay at my place. Its a den, underground, there's a few different areas in it, I can fix one up for you to sleep in." He said, getting up as if to start walking towards it to show the way but then he paused and turned to look back at the fae. "If you wish to stay with me, I can stay outside of it if you wish, but you should rest, you look a little tired."

Ren blinked a few times in surprise. He wanted her to stay with him? Her suspicion was probably obvious on her face. But, really, what would he have to gain? She clearly didn't have anything to eat, and she didn't even want to think about the other option. Against her better judgement, she had to say that he really didn't seem like the type.

Her ears folded back for a moment, thinking. He was right about her being tired; it was an understatement, actually. She was exhausted. The idea of declining his offer and aimlessly wandering for what was likely to be almost all of the night just to end up sleeping out in the open was unpleasant to say the least. But... The thought of sleeping so near to another wolf frightened her. Never had she slept in another wolf's den since she was a pup, especially not one she knew so little about. What could she really do, though? As entertaining as freezing to death sounded, the thought of a warm den had already rooted inside of her mind and refused to let go.

Taking a deep breath, Ren looked towards the wolf as best as she could. She paused for a moment, carefully mulling over her words. “That... Would be lovely. I wouldn't dare ask you to sleep outside of your own den, though,” her words trailed off by the end and she looked away. Her next words were even quieter, “I would hate to trouble you any.”

((Okay, I reread it and I didn't even remember writing it, that's a scary thought. But its alright, I've been real busy, not anymore now for the same reason as you were, im glad that's all over though. Did you do good on your finales? And sorry, I haven't been RPing much and this might seen choppy or not very good.))

Ghost watched as the fae had a surprised expression upon her face. Was the fae that surprised at the offer. He hadn't seen many wolves in a while and did he do the right thing? He looked off in thought thinking and then snap his attention back to the fae as she answered his offer. Saying -That... Would be lovely. I wouldn't dare ask you to sleep outside of your own den, though.- He looked at her ready to answer before he barely heard her say - I would hate to trouble you any- He thought with a frown on his face then slightly laughed, then spoke up "No, you wouldn't trouble me any, I would be glad to help you out. And to tell you the truth I usually sleep outside of the den anyways. The cold doesn't bother me much anymore. I would clear out one of the sleeping dens down a short tunnel inside and would be a good spot for you to rest and keep you warm from the icy winds and such. I could gather some pine branches and line it with them." He said looking at her " So, what do you say?" He said shifting feet and waiting for a reply. He just hoped the fae didn't think he was trying to do anything, he was only just trying to be nice like most thought he wasn't.

The pale she-wolf jumped in surprise when the male laughed lightly. Was what she said really so amusing? She turned to look at him when he began to speak again, her fur settling once again. Although his words weren't exactly unexpected, they still helped to put her anxious mind more at ease.

"So, what do you say?" He shifted on his paws, almost seeming nervous about her answer. Her brow quirked ever-so-slightly at the thought. Since when was another wolf nervous about her answer to anything? She wanted to laugh at the idea, but the only thing that came out was a small smile on her maw. A particularly harsh blast of cold air hit her back and, with a shiver, she was reminded that she still needed to answer his question. “It would sure beat sitting out in this frost. I don't know how you can stand it.” She stood up slowly, careful not to appear too eager about getting into another wolf's den. Although they weren't that far from each other, Ren took a few measured steps closed to him so that she would be able to follow him better once he started moving.

((I think I did alright, though they only give me numbers so I got to do the percentage myself, I believe I got b's don't know if there +,- though. But I only had two classes each semester, fall and spring and ill say I did terrible in the fall one, failing one of the classes I believe. It was pretty ruff, but i did better in the spring even for my first year. So I'm happy in the end with the two b's I got, I might've had a A in my science class I did have though the grade got took off before I could look at it so im stumped until I get my report card from the school that will have my college grades on it too. ,I feel I wrote more here then what ill rp :P And do you now how to get gifs to work, I had a wolf running through the woods for my sig but its not working.))

Ghost smiled as she accepted his offer, he would of had a guilty conscious if he had left her out here in the weather even if she wanted to stay, as it seemed to pick up slightly, cold air blasting against his fur making it lay flat. As she came a few strides closer, he turned around ready to lead the way to the den. He took off at a brisk pace but soon slowed so the fae would be able to follow him in the worsening weather around them. He slowed to a steady walk looking at the fae he tried to make simple conversation. "So...it might be good to know each others names." He said watching as he stepped over a soft patch of snow that would sink if stepped on. "I go by the name ghost, at least the few wolves that know me call me that, for there reasons I don't quiet know except for my pelt color. What's your name if I may ask?" He said looking at the fae.

OOC: Oh, that sucks. I hate when they take the grades down before you can look at them >_< Was this your first year of high school? And about the gif, did you save it and upload it yourself? If so, that might be the problem. Certain image hosts don't let you upload animated gifs. Sorry this post is kinda short and doesn't add much.

Ren was quick to follow the male as he started leading the way back to his den, not wanting to lose him in what seemed to be a coming storm.
