Beginnings

On the edges of the Freezing Forest, a young male wolf prowled through the trees.

The snow and ice covered everything, his smell, his tracks, the past.

But now was not the time to be hidden.

It was the time to fight for his rightful place, to draw blood if necessary.

He would challenge anyone and anything in his way.

There was nobeast in sight. Hei walked on.

yin wandered through the ice covered ground, trying to find a hallow in a tree. she was freezing, and had ice forming on her pelt. as she walked, she came across another wolf, prowling nearby. then all her sleepless nights caught up with her, and she blacked out

A movement. A sound.

Hei's eyes snapped around, his heart thumping.

Not far from where he stood, a silver-pelted female wolf lay in the snow. She wasn't moving.

He didn't remember the body being there before; she must have followed him and collapsed soon after.

Could she be dead?

No.

Even if she were, why did he care?

There was no place for compassion in this world.

If you fall and cannot get up, you are as good as raven food.

He turned to walk away.

But something made him turn back.

Come on, Hei, you're getting soft.

Pulling the female by the scruff of her neck, he dragged her under the base of a conifer tree. It wasn't much shelter, but it was the best he could find.

Sighing, he lay down next to her.

Half a day. That's how long I wait for her to wake up. Then I'm outta here.

an hour passes then she wakes up. the first thing she noticed, was that she was warm. or at least warmer. then she noticed the wolf beside her.
"who are you?"she asked, weakly.

"Who are you?"

Her voice woke Hei with a start. He had dozed off.

The gray wolf lept to his feet, embarrassed that he had been caught off guard.

I am really getting weak.

Hei walked past her, shaking snow off his pelt.

The snow was falling lighter now outside. It was also getting dark.

"I am Hei," said the gray wolf. "I am nobody."

yin tilted her head to the side, confused. "well, hello hei and nobody" she said. she wondered why he had helped her. he didn't seem like the type.
she heaved herself to her paws, but staggered and fell. she tried again, this time managing to stay up. "i need to hunt" she said staggering forward a few steps.

You've got to be kidding me.

In two bounds Hei blocked her path.

His answer was already ready at his teeth: If you want to get yourself killed so quickly, then I should have not wasted my time waiting for you to recover.

The words never came out.

Suddenly, he was face to face with her dark indigo eyes and he realised there was something about her that was so... so naive, so open, selfless and so vulnerable. There was not a shred of malice or hate on her.

And that bothered him more than he cared to admit.

For the second time that day, he sighed.

"This is not a time nor place to hunt," said Hei eventually. "We must use all our energies to leave this godforsaken wasteland."

He walked on ahead out of their makeshift shelter. Turning back at her, he said, ""Hey. Keep close. If you lag behind, I'm not going to wait for you again."

I have no idea who she is, I have no idea what I am doing. I must be going crazy.

she looked at him for a second, undecided. she didn't even know this wolf, and now she was ready to follow him.
sighing, she stummbled after him, "ok. lets get out of here" she said.
