Faolan slunk silently through the trees. He was following the scent of a pack border. He intended to keep walking until he spotted another wolf nearby. As he continued along, his eyes, nose, and ears always alert, he thought about his past.
He was run out of his pack far away for something he did not do. Another wolf did something so formidable, it was usually the penalty of death by the rest of the pack. Of course, it didn't help that the wolf had looked similar to him. A witness of the deed had seen the culprit from a distance, and she had sworn it was Faolan in front of the whole pack. The real criminal was too afraid to speak up, the coward he was.
The whole pack was shocked. Faolan had never done anything like this before. He was a good advice giver, very wise, as young as he was. Because Faolan had never had reason for reprimanding before, and also because the alpha didn't think for sure that he had done it, instead of death Faolan was run out and banned from the pack. And because of the unjustifiable punishment, he ended up where he was now.
Faolan sighed. He occasionally wished he said something at the tme of his accusation. He'd known who had done it. But he was too merciful and softhearted. even now, he didn't think he'd do it, even though he knew the result.
Since he hadn't detected any wolf yet, he decided to declare himself. He stepped up with his front toes to the border line and lifted up his head, closing his eyes. He let out a long, deep howl, calling for a greeting.
